Students entering grades 8 - 12 in the fall of 2013 are eligible to volunteer as Junior Counselors for this summer’s Ecology Camp. Students with interests in ecology and working with youth are encouraged to apply!
What will the Junior Counselors do?
We will be working with our ecology campers to help them collect scientific data from an experiment that will begin during the first weeks of camp. It will be the responsibility of the Junior Counselor to ensure correct collection and entering of the data and necessary maintenance of the project for their assigned week. In addition, the Junior Counselor will help us summarize the week’s data and present it to parents on the last day of camp. If the Junior Counselor would like, they can continue the project beyond the 5-day camp.
How has the Junior Counselor program changed?
In addition to the required camp orientation, Junior Counselors will be asked to participate in an introductory training session for our research project hosted at the Cary Institute. While we will do our best to accommodate your schedules, attendance at all orientation and training sessions is mandatory, We hope that the added scientific component to camp will help us create a more meaningful experience for the Junior Counselors and instructors, alike.
