Winter Tree Identification Workshop & Walk

Session full.

Join Cary Institute Wildlife Biologist Mike Fargione and Dutchess Land Conservancy Ecologist Julie Hart for a tree identification workshop and walk. The program will be offered at two times: 10 am - 12 pm or 1:30 to 3:30 pm.

Wise forest stewardship requires that landowners familiarize themselves with the woody plants on their property. Participants will learn to recognize native and invasive trees and shrubs by their shape, bark patterns, twigs, fruits, and seeds. They will also gain experience using identification keys.

There will be an indoor workshop followed by a walk. Wear boots and appropriate clothing. Each person will receive a Winter Tree Finder field guide and a DLC lighted magnifier.

The program will begin at the main campus, Plant Science Building, 2801 Sharon Turnpike (Rte. 44) in Millbrook, New York. Registration is required. The number of participants is limited. The event is cosponsored by Dutchess Land Conservancy.
