2019 Hudson Data Jam Competition

Making data "sing" through creative expression

Now in its sixth year, the Hudson Data Jam Competition challenges students to creatively tell the science stories of the Hudson River watershed.



There are a number of ways to be a winner in the Hudson Data Jam. Prizes will be awarded separately for middle and high school students. Each age group will include:

  • Best overall project ($500)
  • Level 1 winner ($200)
  • Level 2 winner ($200)
  • Level 3 winner ($200)
  • People’s Choice Award chosen at the Data Jam Expo ($100)
  • Honorable Mentions and Special Prizes

  • Marist College Summer Environmental Science Course ($1800 value)

 We are delighted to be able to offer admission to this 3-credit course to high school members of an exceptional Data Jam team (up to 4 students) or to individual Data Jam participants (up to 4 students) at half of the standard cost of the course.   • Best Climate Change Related Project ($100/team)

Chazen Companies LLC is offering this prize for the best project that addresses climate change. We have many datasets that fit into this category!

  • Best Emerging Data Jammers Project ($100/team)

M&T Bank is sponsoring this prize for the best project from a team or individual who has never participated in the Hudson Data Jam before.

  • Best Use of Visual Art ($20 gift card)

Catskill Art Supply is offering a gift card to the team that best uses visual art (drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, etc.) to explain their dataset. 

  • Best Use of Riverkeeper Sweep Data

Riverkeeper is offering limited edition Sweep 2019 T-shirts to the best project that uses the data from the Riverkeeper Sweep.
