On Thursday, October 2 @ 11am ET, join Cary Institute for a virtual scientific seminar by Dr. Adriane Esquivel-Muelbert, University of Cambridge. Life as we know it cannot exist without forests. Over 25% of the world’s population rely on forest resources for their livelihood. Forests regulate climate by storing vast amounts of carbon and absorbing around 3 of every 10 molecules of CO2 emitted annually by humans to the atmosphere. However, the benefits forests provide, and the connections between forests and human populations are currently endangered due to growing pressure from global change.
In this talk, Dr. Esquivel-Muelbert will present some of her research on forest dynamics across space and time. Adriane aims to understand how the composition and structure of forests have been and will be changing, with a focus on tropical systems. Knowing how forests function and how this has changed over time helps us protect these ecosystems. She will also present some of her efforts to translate research into policy.
Free and open to all. Registration required via Eventbrite.
