On Sunday, May 18 at 10 am ET, join us for a guided walk in Cary's Fern Glen to learn all about spring ephemerals. A local Master Naturalist will share insights into these woodland wildflowers that have early, short-lived blooms and provide valuable food sources for early-emerging native pollinators. Species to be explored may include trout lily, spring beauty, jack-in-the-pulpit, and trillium.
When in the Fern Glen, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about Cary’s Phenology Trail. This volunteer opportunity involves tuning into nature and recording small but important changes in plants – from bud, to flower, to fruit, to seed. Observations, submitted to the US National Phenology Network, help us understand plant life cycles and how they are changing.
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and long pants. Bring drinking water. This will be an easy hike of less than 1 mile on trail and boardwalk. Space is limited, and registration via Eventbrite is required.
This event is co-hosted by the Dutchess County Land Conservancy (DLC).
Fern Glen Chronolog
Citizen scientists help monitor changes in the Fern Glen by taking a photo at a Chronolog station and emailing it. Photos are automatically added to the time-lapse.
