J. Barclay Collins is chairman of the board for the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG), a position he has held since 2018. In his long and accomplished leadership career, Barclay served as executive vice president and general counsel of Hess Corporation for 20 years, as vice president and general counsel at City Investing Company in New York, and in private practice with the law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore. In addition, he served on the board of Nuvera Fuel Cells, Inc. and Dime Bancorp.
Putting his extensive experience, acumen, and passion to work for the nonprofit world, Barclay has served numerous community organizations in health care, historic preservation, the arts, education, and environmental protection. In addition to his work with Cary Institute and NYBG, Barclay is also on the board of The Garden Conservancy and is the secretary of The Brooklyn Hospital Center board. An avid sailor with an interest in history, he is also a board member and the former chairman of the Mystic Seaport Museum. In 2019, he was celebrated for his 35 years of dedicated service to the United Hospital Fund, where he is chair emeritus. J. Barclay Collins holds an AB from Harvard College and a JD from Columbia Law School.
