Ecology of Lightning

Thunderstorms are a major driver of tree death in tropical forests and are becoming more frequent with climate change. We are studying lightning's role in shaping forests in order to predict changes in carbon storage. Understanding what’s causing the trends in tree death is critical to guiding decisions about which tree species to plant or conserve.
